Our disc brake family covers a wide spectrum of vehicle and machine applications. It includes spring-applied sliding caliper brakes, hydraulic fixed caliper and sliding caliper disc brakes, mechanical sliding caliper disc brakes, air disc brakes and hydraulic-mechanical sliding caliper brakes.
Depending on the vehicle concept and the braking task, different designs and actuation systems are therefore available. From the compact parking and auxiliary brake to the powerful fixed caliper brake, the systems can be matched to the braking torque, the installation space, the actuation and the operating conditions. All designs are precisely controllable, deliver constant characteristic values and are insensitive to temperature and speed fading.

Hydraulic, electric sliding caliper
HEGS extends the proven hydraulic service brake with an electric parking brake for vehicles from 3.5 to 10 tonnes. Suitable for rough terrain, waterproof and designed for extreme temperatures, it combines reliable holding with low maintenance effort.

E-FSG - electric spring-applied sliding caliper brake
The new generation of parking brakes. No hoses, no valves, just a secure hold. E-FSG is an electric spring-applied sliding caliper brake for reliable parking without hydraulics. Compact, sturdy and with a fail-safe function, it is particularly suitable for construction and off-highway vehicles.

E-FSG was developed specifically for construction and off-highway vehicles and makes a reliable parking brake possible even where a hydraulic solution is to be avoided.
Spring-applied sliding caliper brakes
These brakes work on the fail-safe principle: in normal operation the brake is released by a constant supply of pressure. If the pressure drops, the integrated spring accumulator initiates safe braking.
Spring-applied sliding caliper brakes are particularly suitable as parking and auxiliary brakes on gearbox output and axle drive flanges. The enclosed design is ideal for off-road use.

Hydraulic fixed caliper disc brakes
Fixed caliper disc brakes are characterised by a fixed connection to the wheel suspension. The braking force acting on the brake disc is generated by at least two opposing pistons.
The advantage: unlike floating or sliding calipers, fixed caliper disc brakes have no sliding elements, which makes them ideal for off-road use and for environments with heavy contamination.
Available sizes: 2, 4 or 6 pistons with a diameter of 40 - 92 mm
Braking torques: up to 120,000 Nm (depending on the brake disc diameter)
Hydraulic sliding caliper disc brakes
The actuating force is applied on one side through one or more pistons. The actuating force on the opposite side is generated by the reaction force of the movable caliper, which is supported on the disc through the linings.
This construction makes it possible to build the brake further into the rim. Suitable for on-road applications with tight installation spaces, such as municipal vehicles, airfield equipment and trailers.
Available sizes: 1 or 2 pistons with a diameter of 40 - 72 mm
Braking torques: up to 10,000 Nm (depending on the brake disc diameter)
Mechanical sliding caliper disc brakes
These brakes have a brake lever that is controlled externally through air, hydraulic or spring-applied cylinders, or through a cable, linkage or handbrake lever. Mechanical sliding calipers are used as parking and auxiliary brakes.
Available sizes: MGS 22, MGS 33, MGS 40, MGS 45 and MZB 40
Braking torques: up to 6,000 Nm (depending on the brake disc diameter)
PGS - air disc brakes
Actuation takes place on one side through an external diaphragm cylinder. The actuating force on the opposite side is generated by the reaction force of the movable caliper. The advantages over conventional systems are the compact design, the ease of servicing and the stable braking behaviour.
Applications are found in heavy commercial on-road use such as lorries, buses, mobile cranes, fire service vehicles and trailers. Use in heavy off-road terrain is also made possible by the particular sealing of the sliding elements developed by Knott.

The two-part housing allows the position and the installation angle of the air brake chamber to be adapted so that they meet even the most difficult installation conditions.
HMGS - hydraulic-mechanical sliding caliper brakes
These brakes offer both a service brake function and an integrated parking brake function. The actuating force is applied on one side, either hydraulically through the service brake piston or mechanically through the brake lever. The opposite side is generated by the reaction force of the movable caliper.
One essential advantage: the reinforced components of the parking brake unit make it possible to hold a vehicle even on extreme gradients. Used mainly in construction machinery and special-purpose vehicles.

How do fixed caliper and floating caliper brakes differ?
Fixed caliper brakes generate the braking force through opposing pistons without sliding elements and are therefore insensitive to dirt. Floating caliper brakes apply the force on one side and can be built more compactly and integrated further into the rim.
Does Knott offer customer-specific disc brakes for OEMs?
Yes. All designs are available as a standard version or as an adapted special solution. Application engineering accompanies the design work from the feasibility study to series production.
