Design & engineering
The right electromagnetic brake depends on the torque, the installation space, the switching behaviour and the safety requirements. With KNOTT Vortex, KNOTT combines its own application expertise with the specialist knowledge of an experienced partner for electromagnetic brakes and clutches. In this way, suitable brake concepts are created for demanding applications and special solutions as well.
Depending on the requirement, different designs and versions are available. Brakes can therefore be designed for reliable performance, fast response and a long service life, for demanding industrial environments as well. If a standard solution is not enough, KNOTT develops customer-specific versions, matched to the technical requirements and the available installation space.

Negative brake / spring-applied brake:
In the de-energised state the brake is closed by spring force and holds the torque. It is opened electromagnetically to release it. The fail-safe principle makes it particularly suitable as a holding, parking and emergency brake for safety-relevant drives.

Positive brake / power-applied brake:
The brake is activated by applying current and is released in the de-energised state. It is suitable for targeted braking and positioning, for example to stop drives under load.
Because of its design, it is not a safety brake.

ERA
The ERA is a compact electromagnetic brake for reliable holding and defined braking functions. The friction surface on both sides allows a high braking performance in a compact design.

The ERB is a spring-applied electromagnetic brake with integrated manual release.

ERC
The ERC is a spring-applied electromagnetic brake with manual release and adjustable braking torque. In the de-energised state the brake is closed by spring force. It is opened electromagnetically to release it. The torque setting lets you adapt the braking effect specifically to the particular application.

The ERG is a compact, spring-applied electromagnetic brake with a friction surface on both sides. Its flange design allows it to be integrated into drives and machines while saving space. In the de-energised state the brake is closed by spring force and is opened electromagnetically to release it.

ERH
The ERH is a compact, spring-applied electromagnetic brake for electrically driven vehicles and machines. In the de-energised state the brake is closed by spring force and is opened electromagnetically to release it. The narrow design allows space-saving integration, while different friction materials can be matched to the particular braking task.

The ERM is a spring-applied electromagnetic brake for demanding applications with increased requirements on protection and operational safety. The closed housing with protection class IP66 protects the brake reliably against dust and water.

The EAA is a compact, electromagnetic single-disc brake for precise industrial movement sequences. In the energised state it generates the braking torque and is particularly suitable for applications with high speeds.

What is the difference between a positive and a negative brake?
The positive brake brakes when current is applied; the negative brake closes under spring force in the de-energised state and therefore works on the fail-safe principle.
Which designs does Knott offer?
