Side wind, ruts, bumps or a sudden evasive manoeuvre can cause a caravan to start snaking. What is at first noticeable only as a slight swaying movement can build up quickly.
This is exactly where the ETS Plus comes in.
The electronic stabilisation system monitors the movements of the caravan while you are driving. If it detects a critical snaking movement, it intervenes automatically and helps to stabilise the combination again.

How does the snaking of caravans actually come about, and what makes it so dangerous?
Josef Strasser: Every combination becomes unstable as the speed increases. Even if a caravan has been loaded and secured perfectly, sudden gusts of wind, the suction when overtaking a lorry or bumps in the road can trigger uncontrolled snaking. Incidentally, downhill stretches are one of the most frequent causes. When it gets steep, the weight of the caravan pushes against the vehicle. The combination becomes unstable and particularly sensitive to wind from the side and to uneven ground, and in the worst case all of this can lead to handling that can no longer be controlled and to the vehicle tipping over.
And how does the ETS Plus make driving with a caravan safe?
Christian Mertinko: A special sensor permanently checks the movements of the combination. When a clearly critical situation is detected, the ETS Plus reacts within a fraction of a second and activates controlled braking. This literally stretches the combination out again, stabilises it immediately, and at the same time the ETS Plus reduces the speed. The danger is thereby averted.
